Saturday 10 June 2017 – Koutala Bay, Serifos

We hoped to get away early but after sorting out everything including returning the car early (they did not charge us for the second day) we finally slipped our mooring just before 9:30.  On our way we passed the hill village Kastro which used to be the capital and where we had dinner last night.

Richard put up some sails along the way, but the wind soon faded and it was really just a 4 hour motor slog.  We decided that as the weather is settled today we wouldn’t try the marina on this island and instead identified Koutala bay as a suitable place for the night.

We do however have a problem which we discovered on our way here to Serifos.  The holding tank.  We tried to pump it out but the light indicating it is over half full is still on.  We asked the marina in Leros to overhaul the whole thing because we were having problems last year with it not emptying properly.  They put in a new pump, but it still isn’t right.  What we don’t know is whether the indicator light is not working and it is emptying, or whether it is not pumping out.  So I am worried again.  I can see a bucket coming into the equation here!

Besides that worry all the rest seems fine.  The anchorage is very nice.  There are about 8 boats here.  There is supposed to be a taverna open, but although people were there this afternoon it seems closed this evening.  We weren’t going to go out anyway, but the use of their toilets might have been good in the circumstances!  We have finally seen one other English couple, Jane and Peter on Blue Jay.  Jane swam over to us and gave us some advice about where to go on our way to the Ionian.  We hoped to meet up with them this evening, but we were too busy sorting the boat out to go ashore and they came back before we could invite them on board.  Shame really because we haven’t met many people to socialise with this trip.  I miss that.

One thing Jane said they spent two nights for free in the new marina here which still isn’t finished.  So we got talked out of that, but it is fine where we are and the bad weather does not seem to be following us (fingers crossed).
