Thursday 8 June 2017 - Plati Yialos, Sifnos
Well, the weather forecast turned out to be correct. It absolutely poured with rain all
morning. So as planned we did our domestic chores. I finished cleaning and polishing the woodwork in the saloon
and gave the heads a once over.
We have had a problem with the bilge pump. It keeps turning on automatically which
means we are accumulating water in the bilges. Richard did look at the stern gland under way yesterday and
it was letting in a lot of water.
We hope that is the problem.
So we tightened that up.
Only problem is that the bilge water is brackish, so some fresh water is
getting in. We hope it was the
rain, not a leaking water tank! As
of this evening we haven’t heard the bilge pump go on again.
The afternoon cheered up a bit and we finally got to clean
the side decks. They are
better, but still stained. The
damned marina left chrome polish all over the place and we can’t get rid of it.
Up until today there have been few boats here in the
harbour. But that certainly
changed this afternoon when 10 more boats arrived and filled the harbour. The things that have come in are huge. It is only a small harbour and one
wonders why they think it is a suitable place. But the harbour master managed to berth everyone, so guess
that is how it works. Very odd, virtually
all the boats are charter boats, many with hired skippers. We are really the odd one out!
The forecast high winds for tomorrow are now not
forecast! However we have ordered
a car and will stick to our plan to look around the island. Sunday’s forecast is for very little
wind but Monday’s is for a Meltemi!
