Wednesday 31 May 2017 - Leros
Well we have made it to Leros. Other than having to get up at 5:45 all went well. The plane left about 10 minutes late,
but for half an hours flight that didn’t matter. Our car was waiting for us at the airport. It only cost 50 euro for two days which
we reckon was really good especially as the taxi alone to the boat from the
airport usually costs about 20 euro.
On the way to the marina we were able to pick up a few basic things to
make breakfast. The full shopping
trip will wait to tomorrow.
There is lots to do to get the boat ready to leave. I have to clean the inside of the boat
and unpack all the stuff we brought.
We both have far too many clothes with us! But I did get the cabin, heads and Galley done. I can’t do the rest until R moves out
all the sails and junk.
Richard was doing well with sails, bimini, etc until he
noticed that the mainsail hadn’t been returned from the sailmakers and then
worse than that, the lines for the lazy jacks had been messed about and cannot
be rigged. Richard always ties
them off to the bottom of the mast so that when we put the main on the boat it
is easy to just attach the lines to the tags on the stack bag. But someone has disturbed the lines.
The bits that hold the sail in place have been disconnected from the lines that
raise and lower them. One set are
at the bottom of the mast. The
other set is nowhere to be seen. Fortunately the ropes that raise and lower the lazy jacks
haven’t disappeared entirely down the inside of the mast. They are just visible 20 feet from deck
level but will need someone to go up the mast nearly to the second cross trees
to bring them down. In fact as we looked around we can see that
someone has been messing with a lot of the lines. The side lines to the passerelle have been messed about and
needed a lot of adjustment to properly set it up. The little lines that attach our fender board to the stantions
have been taken off but they are still there. The zip has been undone on the bimini and then the cover has
been replaced. We do not
understand what they have been doing.
We have complained and asked them to come and re-rig the lazy lines at
no expense, but we are still waiting to hear. We really want to get away on Friday, so time is beginning to
get short.
But the weather is lovely. It really isn’t too hot. Just about 21C, but the sun is fully out and strong so it
feels much warmer. There is
however a nice breeze. The
weather forecast is still for very little wind over the next few days, so when
we do get away it will be a motoring job.
I have made a list of the provisions I need to buy. It is enormous! Tomorrow morning we need to get up
early to go and get our sailing pass for the boat renewed. They are now charging 50 Euros for the
season. Well that is a lot better
and the 300-500 Euros they were talking about at one time. So watch this space and see if we get
away in good time.
