Sunday 10 September 2017 – Porto Montenegro

I didn’t post yesterday because other than rain, nothing happened.  We toyed with the idea of leaving in the morning, but the black clouds kept us to Plan A.  So that was to start off to the Bay of Kotor as soon as we filled the tank with diesel.  That was what we did and we set off just before 8:30.

We were headed to a posh big Marina for several reasons.  Firstly high winds are forecast and up an inland sea with proper mooring facilities seems as good way to keep safe.  Secondly we were highly recommended to this place by the yachtsman from Guatamala.  Finally we thought we could do with a bit of luxury.  I had reserved ourselves a berth, so all looked good.

The day also started our nice.  It was sunny, a bit warmer and the sea was nearly flat with a slight swell.  But that only lasted for an hour or two.  Then the wind started to rise and the sea became very lumpy with waves of over a meter.  The only good part was that the wind was behind us so we had the Genoa up most of the time adding maybe a knot to our motoring speed.

We made it here in 6 hours, which was longer than we thought it would take.  They had us on record reserving a space and set us on a pontoon right next to the office.  However, our first impressions of the place changed for the worse.  We were told that there was a beautiful swimming pool here.  We set off to find it only to discover that it costs 21 euro per person to go in.  They did let us in to see the place and to have a drink (where I finally got my evening cocktail I have been hankering after for days).  Richard is tempted to go tomorrow, but the weather forecast is for rain, so we will have to see.

The next problem is discharge of grey water.  It is absolutely not allowed here.  This is very difficult for us as we have no holding tank for grey water.  This means we can’t shower on board and if we want to wash our hands or do the dishes, we have to use a bucket and spill the contents into the loo.  This is very limiting. The only good thing is that they will pump out our loo tank any time for free.  Well, that is what they say.

The worst is that when we went to take showers we found that there was no hot water!  As we can’t shower on board because of the grey water ban, this is really a minor catastrophe and certainly makes their charges of 75 euro a night a joke.  We have protested, but all they say is that they will try to fix it!

So fast wash in a bucket of water and we went to dinner.  That too is rather expensive, but it was quite good.  Now we are waiting for the place to calm down a bit to go to bed.  Not sure what tomorrow brings.

Oh, and their free WIFI is rubbish!
