Friday 23 June 2017 – Andikiron, (mainland Greece, about halfway between Corinth and Patras)
We were a bit shocked to see that it was after 9am when we woke up! The heat must have really knocked us
out. So we had a late breakfast
and as the sun got hotter we went in for a swim before we set out. We have about 20 miles to go, but as
ever no sails. This time the wind
was not on the nose. But it was
2knots from behind, so no use at all!
We are going along just in bathing suits and are managing to keep cool
enough if we stay out of the sun.
At about 2pm we approach Andikiron. It is a strange little place. There is a harbour wall but no other yachts. As we approach a fisherman is
gesticulating to us about mooring but we cannot make out what he is trying to
say to us. The pilot book says you
can moor alongside inside or outside the harbour wall. There appears to be a space inside, so
we go for it (as it were). We make
a terrible mess of it, but luckily a crew member of the fishing boat that is
moored behind where we are trying to go takes our lines and helps us. We keep getting the bows in and the
stern out, which is the wrong way around.
Anyway after about 15 minutes we are nicely tucked up alongside next to
towers for water and electricity.
I am uncertain about the electricity, so we don’t connect, but we do
fill up with water which was getting necessary. There is no one here to say if
we are in an appropriate place, but the fishermen seem happy enough.
I was going to put together some lunch, but it is 32C below and I cannot
face staying below for any time.
So we make our way to a pleasant restaurant where we have a light lunch
and get WIFI. Our credit on our
internet device ran out this morning, so we need all the free WIFi we can
get. There is no Vodafone shop
here and we don’t know when we will find one. We will post this at the restaurant this evening (again too
hot to cook, now 33C below). But be
warned that postings may be a bit erratic for the next few days.
One other yacht has turned up and moored up outside the wall. We think there may be a rally coming
here tomorrow so we will have to leave fairly early.
