Monday 10 July 2017 – Corfu
I didn’t get a chance to write anything yesterday as things were quite
hectic. We woke fairly early to
leave Gaios in good time as we had a long passage to Corfu. I was worried that we might have had
our anchor crossed by the boat to our starboard who came in after us. It is a tight harbour with everyone
throwing anchors down in different directions. But, no, out anchor was fine and came up like a dream.
We have had our berth confirmed by Gouvia Marina in Corfu, so we can
arrive there at almost any time.
We want to have a swim so we motored (as usual) for three hours until we
came to a bay on Corfu. Richard
had planned to go further in towards a town, but we found a shallow part where
other boats were anchored and that saved some considerable time. We had a swim, then lunch then another
swim and off we went towards Corfu town.
As we turned into the channel to Gouvia, past Corfu town we found that
we had 9-10 knots of wind on the beam and as we were in no hurry for our last
hurrah Richard decided to sail on the Genoa. So we end this portion of the trip sailing for an hour.
The marina is huge. We get
a nice berth on a pontoon just opposite to the marina office and near the
toilets. The showers, which are
very nice, are a bit of a hike away, but we shall manage. We sort things out well. We organized hiring a car for three
days which we can return to the airport, which is very convenient. We have found the supermarket and a
swimming pool, which is part of a café that has free WIFI, which might be very
convenient. They even have a
cricket pitch!
It is very hot, but I had bought some frozen squid which now must be
cooked, so we had dinner on board.
After that I had no energy to do anything but shower and go to bed.
So now that is the end of our sailing until September. We are spending the next two days
motoring around the island, going to beaches and sightseeing. We will drive the Weymers to the
airport on Wednesday morning and then finish putting the boat to bed for the
rest of the summer.
So that is the end of this blog.
We will be in touch when we are back at the end of August. Have a good summer.
