Thursday 6 July Lefkada Town, Lefkas Island
Quite a successful day really.
We had a fairly leisurely morning and raised anchor at 9:45. We didn’t have far to go, so we motored
very slowly and put the fishing line out to see if we might catch
something. Of course we
didn’t.
As we approached Lefkada Town and were in the canal we saw other boats
anchored outside the channel and as it was very hot we decided to stop for a
swim, which made us all feel much better.
Then we went on to Lefkas marina.
We had not made our mind up where to go in town. We had to go to the marina to
refuel. We were down to 40 litres
of fuel and 60 miles to go to Corfu.
At the marina there is (unusually) a proper fuel pontoon, so we could
fill up without taking a berth in the marina. We did that and then I noticed that someone was walking
around with camping gas bottles.
One of our bottles ran out yesterday so we were able to get a new one at
half the price we have paid before.
We all decided that we didn’t want to stay in the marina. It is very expensive and a long way
from the town. So we motored into
the town and were able to find a place on the town quay! We tied up easily with the help of an
adjoining boat owner.
Lunch on board and we are now pretty much out of fresh food. So we take a long hot walk around the
town trying to find the large supermarket we went to when we were here on our
charter boats some years ago. We
had no luck despite trying to get directions from three or four people. Eventually we wound up in a very small
place with limited stock. After
that we went to three other shops to get all we needed and finally found the
butcher’s shop open. So we are now
well provisioned to keep us going for at least 2-3 days.
Dinner out in town and then back to the boat to top up the water
tank. We find that the huge motor
yacht next to us has attached to the hose. Keith cheekily goes aboard their boat to find the crew, who
disconnect. It takes two 2 Euro
shots to just top up our tank, using maybe 50 litres. Heaven knows how the motor yacht is going to manage.
It is late now and we have an early start in the morning.
