Friday 22 September 2017 – Vodice
The anchorage last night was really lovely. In the end there were 10 boats in the bay. Had the weather been warmer and allowed
us to swim it would have been perfect.
In the morning we were a bit shocked to see that the temperature in the
boat was only 14C. So we put the
heating on for a few minutes to just top up the warmth. I went up to the cockpit and found it
was actually warmer there especially with the sun shinning. But the water temperature was only 17C.
We set off just before 9am.
We hoped that we might be able to sail again, but no. The usual conditions applied. Little wind and what there was, was on
the nose. So it was back to
motoring for the morning. Last
night we contacted a marina 25 miles away and booked a space. We were persuaded to pay to reserve because
it is Friday and the charter boats come in. Not sure it was necessary, but better safe…
The trip was pleasant if boring.
The sea was flat and the sun was shining. It was however quite cool and we spent most of the time in a
sweatshirt and later a fleece to keep warm. For the first time since the south of France we have seen lots
of boats out on the sea. Parts of
the way it wasn’t much different that a quiet day on the Solent! Many of the crews were in bathing gear. Not sure why they weren’t freezing to
death.
On the way into the marina we finally found a fuel quay not fully
occupied by a Super Yacht, so we filled up with diesel. Just as well, it took over 100
litres. In the marina we moored up
fine. The place is expensive, as
always, but adequate. We are in a
nothing town and there is nothing to keep us here. The only new problem is the weather forecast. The girl in the marina office mentioned
that the settled weather will only last until tomorrow and that bad weather is
coming in on Sunday. This leaves
us in a quandary as to where to go from here. There aren’t many safe havens just around here, which is
just wild islands. Richard spent
all afternoon trying to make some contingency plans. We must just hope we can ride the bad weather out.
We walked into town and had dinner there. It was OK, but again expensive for what it was.
So we will have a good night’s sleep and see what comes next.
