Saturday 23 September 2017 – Sali
When we got up this morning the sun was shining and it seemed a lovely
day. Richard looked again at the
weather forecast. As it has said
all along, today would be sunny and settled with little wind. But the forecast for tomorrow had
changed. There were no more
suggestions of strong winds or rain.
In the circumstances we decided to revert to our original plan and go to
Sali which is the main town on the island of Dugi Otok in the Zadar
Archipelago. It is a large group
of islands, many of which are unoccupied.
Sali has a town wall to moor to.
Richard was a bit worried because the books say the harbour is not
protected from an Easterly wind, but the forecast doesn’t show that will be the
case.
So we set out. As ever, there is little or no wind. Richard tried to put up the Genoa, but
gave up after half an hour. It was
so settled I was able to make lunch under way. We arrived in Sali at about 2:30pm. There were hardly any boats here. We were directed to a place on the wall
next to another boat. There are
pick up lines, which is good.
There is also electricity, water, toilets and showers. We expect they will want some large sum
of money soon. In fact, it isn’t
too bad - about £40. The town is
sweet with old houses all around the harbour. It is even quite warm.
I put on one of my summer dresses to take a walk around. Make good use of the sun while it is
here, I reckon. As the day went on the harbour started to fill up. There are about 18 boats on the bit of
wall we are on. However, there is
a huge number of berths with pick up lines on the other side of the harbour,
which is more or less emptly.
So we stay around the town.
We are thoroughly confused by the weather forecast for tomorrow. It seems to change every hour or two. By dinner time it is back to saying
there will be strong winds and heavy rain tomorrow afternoon. We think we would be comfortable here
in bad weather, so we may just stay.
We have a day from our original itinerary to get to Venice. Even that left 4-5 days
spare. We shall see what the
forecast is in the morning. If we
want to move, we will have to leave very early.
