Wednesday 20 September 2017 – Split
It rained most of the night and continued all morning. It is also quite cold. We have reverted to the duvet on the
bed and we are sitting in the saloon with fleeces on! All of this is far more like sailing in Northern Europe
rather than the Med!
We had a quite morning hoping the weather would improve, but it did
not. So at midday we put our
layers on including our waterproof jackets and walked into the old city of
Split. By the time we got there we
were cold, wet and hungry so we stopped for lunch first. We were persuaded by a very pushy
waiter to order their fresh fish and great cost, but it was good. When we had finished our meal the rain had
stopped and the sun even tried to get through, though with not much success.
The old city of Split is really interesting. Basically it is built within what was the palace of the
Roman Emperor Diocletian. So there
are a lot of Roman pillars with Byzantine and Baroque houses and churches built
into the old stone walls.
We had a good look around and finally walked back again. I could have done with getting some more stores in, but we didn’t see anywhere decent to shop and didn’t feel like making an excursion. I have enough food for at least two days, so that should be OK.

We paid our bill in the hope we can leave tomorrow. It was a bit of a shock at £90 a night,
but then we are in one of the bigger towns.
This evening on the boat it was so cold we turned the heating on! We didn’t think we would need it at all
here in the Med. I am running out
of warmer clothes!
